The boy and I headed over to The Showcase in Leicester yesterday, we had decided to use our free tickets, that we were issued due to a film cutting out part way though, The Hobbit 3D HFR if you were wondering.

On each ticket it states “This ticket is issued as a result of an interrupted performance due to causes beyond our control and will be honoured for one admission at any future date” on the reverse it also says “The management reserves the right to revoke the licence granted by this ticket and determine when and where it’s holder may sit”. Either way we were told that these tickets wouldn’t get us into Star Trek, due to a 2 week/ new release window excluding the use of emergency issued tickets. So the tickets don’t get you into “any future date”, I probably wouldn’t have minded if the cinema was actually rammed but at 4pm on a monday, with a maximum of 20 people in the cinema, it was disappointing/ irritating, that I had to part with £18.20 (two tickets for 3d, no glasses).

To add insult to injury the film then went on to cut on four times, first time sat in darkness for around 5-10 minutes. In 21 years I have never had film cut out, except on my two visits to Leicester Showcase. I don’t often complain about service, but when it comes to my passion of film and cinema, I will not accept a sub standard showing, especially when it removes you from a world, the director is trying to create and make you believe in. Thankfully I got my money back, as there is no need for more emergency tickets, because what movie buff wants to wait 2 weeks to watch a film?

On a positive note, the film was enjoyable, not amazing but certainly enjoyable. However Benedict Cumberbatch totally stole the show, a truly sinister and manipulative character.

The older sister has just bough Season 1 & 2 of Dr Who (season one of the relaunched at least anyway). Blue Box Marathon here we come.

While hunting on Amazon, we also found it funny that it listed Billie Piper as named actor over Ecclestone… the only Who box set to do so. Not going to lie he wasn’t a great Doctor, abit wooden and certainly not crazy.

Let’s see if they are any good….

I watched ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ (Sam raimi, 2013) this evening, it was a nice little film, it was no scarier than the others. The one thing it does make me want to do is watch ‘Wizard of Oz’ (Victor Fleming, 1939) followed by ‘Return to Oz’ (Walter Murch, 1985).

I know the first like the back of my hand, it was my favourite book as a child and watched the film to death, the ‘return’ I can remember aspects like Tik-Tok and the crazy monkeys on wheels but not sure what the aim of the whole film was.

Oz Maraton? I think so… post Game of Thrones and Dr Who. I wonder how much the DVDs are.

This year when planning holidays, be I in the same line of employment or not, 1/3 of these were centered around festivals. My first festival of the year will be Dot to Dot in Bristol and my second will be partying in the muddy fields of Worthy Farm aka Glastonbury :)

Glastonbury will also mark, the first year with my boy. I can confidently say it won’t be romantic (well not unless we climb a hill and watch the sun set or rise), but it will be freaking amazing. Bring on the mud, music, sun and baby wipe baths!

How great do the new posters look?

‘The Rings of Akhaten’ Poster is clearly a mixed inspiration of ‘Indiana Jones’ crossed with ‘Lord of the Rings’.

‘Hide’, for me says ‘The Others’,

‘The Bells of Saint John’, I feel like I’ve seen the poster before, but the exact film is escaping me, it’s most certainly Sci-Fi of some description.

‘Cold War’, I have no idea for, not a daisy.

Have you got any ideas? Do the reference films give anything away to the plot? Well we will have to wait and see.

I might start eating simple meals...

Everyone has heard of the horse-meat burger scandal; if you havent i’m not totally sure where you’ve been. The vegetarians where probably having a good old laugh, at the miss fortunes of us poor meat eaters. Don’t get me wrong I’d give horse-meat a try, maybe even dog or cat, if in the right country and that I could convince myself it had a good life first.

But now for the latest food blunder, The Independant has posted a artical entitled “You thought the horse meatballs were bad… Ikea withdraws cakes over ‘faecal matter’”. I can thankfully say I have not eaten anything from Ikea since before Christmas and certainly nothing chocolatey ever. But Ikea has withdrawn it’s chocolate Almond Cake, it claims the UK isn’t effected but trace of sewage waste in food… that takes contamination to a whole new level.

So as a result, it has made me think that, I maybe start eating healthy in the format of ‘meat two veg’ or making everything from scratch. Or if i’m being lazy, only food produced with in the UK?

Food industry, sort your act out!

‘Star Trek: Into The Darkness’ is also popping the film geek vein at the minute! With any luck, I’ll be watching it at The Empire Cinema in Leicester Square, which is the only cinema to offer Dolby Atmos in the UK.

Particularly excited about Benedict Cumberbatch, playing the villan. I thought he was brilliant in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, but had only just finished watching him as Sherlock and was struggling to shake that tag.
